Alexis von Schmidt, a Prussian, in 1849 came to Calif. He surveyed the border of Calif. in 1856, and again from 1873 to 1875, headed the team to blow up Blossom Rock in the San Francisco Bay and owned the Lake Tahoe and San Francisco Water Works Company. Alexis von Schmidt died May 26, 1906. Edward von Schmidt, son of Alexis, was a sailor and engineer. Some of his early voyages were aboard the Good Templar, Modoc, Three Brothers, Ariel and the Francis Palmer. ...
